There are two different installation methods depending if you are installing onto a Sharp Zaurus Linux PDA and using the IPK installation package, or if you are installing on to a system using the Zip or GZ archive.
Installation onto a Sharp Zaurus
The preferred method of installing QuackNews onto a Sharp Zaurus Linux PDA is to use the IPK installation package.
To start installation, download the latest QuackNews IPK file and transfer in onto the Sharp Zaurus. Once the installtion package has been placed on the device, follow the package installation instructions for the operating system that you are running.
A QuackNews icon should now be available on the Java tab of your window manager.
Now launch Quacknews and finish the application configuration.
Installation using a Zip or GZ archive
To install Quacknews onto any system other than a Sharp Zaurus or if the IPK file is not compatable with the operating system that you have installed, then you will need to use the Zip or GZ archive.
To start installation, download the lastest QuackNews Zip or GZ archive. Create a new folder on your destination system and expand the archive files contents into it.
To run QuackNews, go to your command prompt and move to the folder containing the QuackNews files and use the following command line: java -jar QuackNews.jar
Note: This command line is for the Sun Java Virtual Machine, consult your JVM documentation for details of running a Jar file.
A PNG image is provided for a window manager shortcut icon for QuackNews. For details on creating shortcuts, consult your opertating system documenation.
The standard QuackNews archive does not come with any other Templates. If you wish to have your generated HTML pages to be more interesting than the default, in-built design, you need to install the templates archive.
The templates are available from the same location as the main QuackNews archive. To install other templates, create a Templates folder within your [Users Home Directory]/QuackNews folder. Expand your templates archive into this folder. When you next start QuackNews, there will be three new templates to choose from, All In One, Silver and Silver Image.

Launching QuackNews
There are a number of options when launching QuackNews. The full command line options are:
[JVM Command] -jar QuackNews.jar [Optional arguments] [Optional: config file folder Location]
Or, if your JVM does not support running java applications from Jar files;
[JVM Command] -cp QuackNews.jar uk.org.xlevel.quackNews.quackNews [Optional arguments] [Optional: config file folder Location]
Optional Arguments:
-h: [height] - This defines the amount to shrink the height main screen of the application. On some systems the JVM does not take into account the height of the menu bar when calculating the screen height. This allows you to adjust the way your application displays to take account of this.
